Cintas to Provide Free Shredding Services
- People nationwide are invited to shred confidential documents and learn about identity theft protection -
CINCINNATI – [Oct. 13, 2011] – To help consumers fight against identity theft, Cintas Corporation (Nasdaq: CTAS) has teamed up with the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) as the national document management partner for the fourth annual Protect Your Identity Week (PYIW). The National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) and the National Association of Triads (NATI) are co-hosting the events with the NFCC.
From Oct. 16th – 22nd more than 100 identity theft education and protection events will be held across the nation with free shredding services powered by Cintas at participating locations. To find a PYIW event near you, please visit www.ProtectYourIDNow.org.
“Identity theft is a serious problem, and we are excited to partner with the NFCC, NSA and NATI for the second year in a row to create national awareness for this issue,” said Karen Carnahan, President and COO, Cintas Document Management. “By providing our secure shredding services free of charge to consumers, people can be assured that their private information is securely destroyed and out of the hands of potential predators.”
This year’s Protect Your Identity Week events will have a special focus on child identity theft protection. AllClear ID, a title sponsor, will provide information on how to find out if your child is a victim and if so, what to do to protect your children in the future. Consumers are also invited to take advantage of identity theft protection education opportunities including free identity theft workshops, responsible disposal of cell phones through 911 Cell Phone Bank, and credit report reviews from the participating NFCC member agencies.
Anyone can also bring their confidential documents to have them shredded by an on-site, certified Cintas representative at participating locations. From drop-off to destruction, all documents will be constantly monitored and protected. All of the shredded documents will be recycled into secondary paper products to reduce waste and impact on the environment.
“Protect Your Identity Week is dedicated to providing consumers with the education, tools and resources they need to protect themselves against identity theft,” said Gail Cunningham, NFCC spokesperson. “We received tremendous feedback from consumers last year regarding Cintas’ secure shredding services, and we are pleased to offer this service again.”
To raise awareness of child identity theft, AllClear ID is hosting a contest where parents can win a $5,000 savings bond for their child. Cintas is co-sponsoring the prize. The contest will kick off during Protect Your Identity Week and run through Oct. 31. For details, visit the contest Web site.
