When a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti on January 12, 2010, millions of people around the world watched the tragic aftermath unfold. Cintas and its 30,000 employee-partners were among those touched by the tragedy. That’s why, as a corporation with ties to Haiti, we are committed to helping rebuild this country and have partnered with many of our suppliers and customers in order to make the biggest possible impact.
Our Corporate Efforts
Since 1998, Cintas has partnered with Matthew 25: Ministries, an international humanitarian relief organization dedicated to helping the poorest of the poor. Prior to the earthquake, Cintas donations, including garments, fabric, soap, first aid supplies, hand sanitizer, even sewing machines, were regularly being shipped to Haiti. When the earthquake struck, several pallets of donated goods were already in route, and were among the first to arrive in Port Au Prince.

Three days following the quake, Matthew 25: Ministries received an additional 43,000 garments from Cintas, more than half of which were medical scrubs. The garments were valued at more than $330,000.
Cintas provided assistance to one of its clothing suppliers, Island Apparel, in order to help get the plant up and running as soon as possible. The plant, located in Port Au Prince, provides a safe, clean working environment, running water and food to the 1,200 people employed there. With Cintas’ help, Island Apparel was able to reopen two weeks after the earthquake.

Some Cintas locations have partnered with local schools by offering to transport collected goods to Matthew 25: Ministries for them, alleviating the burden of shipping costs.
Our Employee-Partners’ Efforts
Many employee-partners at our Cintas’ 350 locations located throughout North America have begun their own collection drives. The results of their efforts continue to pour in, and have exceeded $70,000. Some employee-partners have collected so much, they’ve opted to drive it to Matthew 25: Ministries themselves, which in some cases, is hundreds of miles away. Others have donated thousands of volunteer hours sorting and packing the 7 million pounds of aid that comes through the Cintas Processing Center at Matthew 25: Ministries’ headquarters every year.

Our Customers’ Efforts
For certain customers, we inventory and distribute their unique company uniforms. Several of these customers have joined the relief efforts and continue to do so daily. Some of these customers include:
- Hertz Corporation, which donated over 9,000 shirts valuing $186,000 to Haiti.
- Knowledge Learning Corporation, which donated $39,000 in t-shirts and baby dolls from their promotional products program with Cintas.
- Embarq Corporation, which donated $97,000 in uniform shirts, pants and other promotional items, like umbrellas, hats and flashlights to Haiti relief.
- Sprint, which donated $139,000 of uniform shirts
